Contact: how to send a correction, and what to include with it
The most useful thing anyone can send this site is a correction that arrives with the document behind it.
Where to write
Corrections, questions about method, and pointers to documents this site has missed all go to the same address:
There is no form, no newsletter and nothing to subscribe to. The address is published as text rather than hidden behind a script, because a reference that asks to be checked should be reachable without ceremony.
What makes a correction usable
Three things, in this order. Name the page and quote the sentence, so there is no ambiguity about what is being corrected. Say what is wrong about it — a figure, a date, a role, an attribution. And give the public document that shows it, with enough detail to find the passage.
That third element is not bureaucracy. This site's entire claim is that every statement on it can be traced to something public, and a correction accepted without a source would break that claim in the act of fixing a sentence. A correction that cannot be sourced is still worth sending — it may point at something worth re-checking — but it will be treated as a question rather than as a correction.
What this site cannot help with
- Individual cases, incidents or people at any border
- Legal advice of any kind
- Contact with, or referral to, any authority or agency
- Procurement questions, supplier introductions or product comparison
None of these is a matter of policy preference. A site that holds no non-public information and speaks for no institution has nothing useful to say about any of them, and pretending otherwise would be worse than declining.
How corrections are applied
A correction that checks out is made in the sentence it affects, on the page where it appeared. Where the change alters a figure that other pages depend on, those pages are updated in the same pass. Questions about contacting this site
What should a correction include?
The page, the sentence, and the public document that shows the sentence is wrong. The last part is the one that matters: a correction that arrives with a source can be checked and applied the same day, and one that arrives without a source cannot be acted on at all, however plausible it is.
Will I get a reply?
Corrections that arrive with a source are acted on. Whether a reply follows depends on volume, and no undertaking is given. If a page changes because of something you sent, the change is on the page — that is the acknowledgement this site can guarantee.
Can you tell me about a specific case at a border?
No. This site describes how systems and arrangements work in general, from public documents. It holds no information about individual cases, incidents or people, and it is not a route to any authority. A question about a specific case belongs with the authority responsible for that border or with a legal adviser.
Do you accept press enquiries or contributions?
Questions about the method or the sources behind a page are welcome and will be answered from the same public documents the page cites. This site does not accept sponsored contributions, guest articles or supplier material of any kind.
